About

Setting up www.alexicon.info at LSE Tower, 4th floorA-Lex-I-Con originated on 7 September 2007 as the public notebook of my Ph.D. thesis project. The blog has a mission. It is to share the background work for my research conveniently formatted for public discussion and reuse.

Linking and referring to posts and pages

You should always link to posts and pages using their permanent web address (URL). It is stable and intended to remain the same until the end of the internet. This is sometimes called in web parlance a permalink. The cool thing is that you can also use permalinks safely in printed materials.

A-Lex-I-Con uses a simple yet human-readable permalink format. A sanitized version of post title is appended to the domain name like “http://www.alexicon.info/drop-that-damn-e“. The permalink for this page is “http://www.alexicon.info/about” (you should see it in your web browser’s address field now).

Changing published posts

I may occasionally correct small mistakes, fine-tune the presentation and update the content of the posts. In the case there is a substantive change to the content I will also update the timestamp of the post to reflect the most recent edit. I will, however, never ever change the entire topic or the main argument of a published post as this might ruin the semantics of some inbound links. In the case I change my mind about the topic, I will write a new post.

Tags and categories

WordPress 2.3.1 platform upgrade introduced tagging (finally!) as a separate way of grouping content. I am currently in the process of implementing the following approach for categorizing and tagging the posts. Categories represent the type of reasoning and referred entity the post draws from. Tags describe the particular semantic content of the post.

Major upgrades

4 August 2008: Upgraded the platform to WordPress 2.6 and updated the plugins. Akismet spam filter was finally deployed.

12 February 2008: A number of small corrections and added Index page, but my Academic theme does still not work with Internet Explorer…

1 February 2008: Switched over to my own Academic theme version 1.0alpha. I am expecting to encounter lots of small quirks.

23–25 December 2007: The platform was upgraded to WordPress 2.3.1 (introducing tagging) and extended with WP-Cache 2.1.2 plugin for faster page retrieval.

7 September 2007: A-Lex-I-Con was launched at www.alexicon.info using WordPress 2.2.1 platform hosted by Joyent.
